The Township Building Department wants you to know that if you live in a rental unit and notice an unsafe condition, you may request that the property be inspected. Inspections can be performed on any rental unit, whether it's a single-family home, duplex, apartment buildling, or mobile home. Inspections will only be performed if a written complaint is filed with this office by the tenant. Garfield Township realizes that all renters are entitled to live in housing that is well maintained and safe. We encourage tenants to report rental properties that require inspection and repair. Tenants can arrange for an inspection (at no cost to them) by calling 941-1620. Owners will be required to pay a $50.00 fee if any violations are found, and may be required to repair units to meet the property maintenance code.
