ORDER OF BUSINESS

Call meeting to order

Rick Smith, Chairman, called the Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting to order on Tuesday January 19, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Garfield Township Hall, 3848 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, Michigan.

Roll Call of Board Members

Present:  Rick Smith, Bob Featherstone, Linda McGuire, Joe Yelencich, Ken O'Brien

Absent and Unexcused:   None

Staff Present: Rob Larrea, Zoning Administrator

•1.      Review and Approval of the Agenda and Conflict of Interest

Yelencich MOVED to approve the agenda as printed.  Bob Featherstone SECONDED the motion.  The motion PASSED unanimously. There were no conflicts of interest.

•2.      Election of Officers

Bob Featherstone MOVED to nominate Rick Smith as Chairman. Linda McGuire SECONDED the motion. The motion PASSED unanimously.

Bob Featherstone MOVED to nominate Joe Yelencich as Vice Chairman. Rick Smith SECONDED the motion. The motion PASSED unanimously.

Bob Featherstone MOVED to nominate Ken O'Brien as Secretary. Joe Yelencich SECONDED the motion. The motion PASSED unanimously.

•3.      Review and Approval of 2010 meeting dates

Discussion took place in regard to the proposed meeting dates, and a correction was made to the schedule to recognize the correct meeting date of June 15, 2010.

Joe Yelencich MOVED to adopt the meeting dates as amended. Linda McGuire SECONDED the motion. The motion PASSED unanimously.

•4.      Review and Approval of ZBA ByLaws

Discussion took place concerning the desire for the Board to incorporate alternates in the case of conflicts, and the necessity to have language in place for future consideration of the matter. The Board also discussed the Planning Commission's representative voting twice on the same matter at both the planning Commission and ZBA, and the frequency of that scenario. Minor grammatical changes were made to the ByLaws.

Bob Featherstone MOVED to adopt the ByLaws as amended. Joe Yelencich SECONDED the motion. The motion PASSED unanimously.

Ken O'Brien MOVED to adjourn the meeting.  Linda McGuire SECONDED the motion.  The motion PASSED unanimously. Rick Smith closed the meeting at 7:16 pm.
