Hughes Drive Nature Reserve
The Hughes Drive Nature Reserve is a 7.5-acre parcel of land on Hughes Drive in the eastern part of the Township. The parcel is heavily wooded and classified as a wetland by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. No recreational facilities exist on site, and the area serves as a natural resource area for the preservation of natural resources, landscapes, and open space.
The property is within the Stream, Environment, and Wetland category of the Township Comprehensive Plan. This land use category is intended to protect the natural resources of Garfield Township and the surrounding area, including Lake Michigan, by buffering streams and wetlands from stormwater runoff and encroachment by development.
