Charter Township of Garfield: Building DepartmentThis Department was created to provide the residents of Garfield Township with timely and thorough building inspection services on a local level. We enforce the provisions of the Construction Code Act - Public Act 230. This act was put in place to ensure that a prescribed level of life safety is incorporated into all buildings constructed in the State of Michigan. In Garfield Township this is accomplished by administering and enforcing the provisions of the Michigan Building Code. The building permit process provides a prescribed measure of life safety, barrier free accessibility, and long term benefits for the future of the built environment in Garfield Township. The permit process includes screening all applications for the required documents, performing an in depth plan review to ensure the plans meet the minimum requirements of the building code, and inspecting the construction to ensure the actual construction meets the code approved plans and specifications.
